The Craters Edge was designed by South Africa’s Les Harbottle. Les’ vision for Craters Edge was to preserve and harmonise the design with the lodge’s natural surroundings. From the locally sourced materials to the choice of colour palettes and textures, every element of the design is the embodiment of sustainability and luxury, appealing to all five of the senses.
The lodge boasts individual stand-alone suites in the form of luxuriously appointed tents, which are perched on stilts above the African landscape. The acacia groves that embrace the lodge are home to many elephant and other wildlife and were untouched during construction, ensuring that the ecosystems could grow and thrive in the lodge’s presence.
The suites are the last word in luxury. Giant canopied beds are dressed in white linens. A spacious lounge area boasting two commodious chairs and an ottoman allows you a moment of pause during the day to tuck up in an armchair with a book or a pair of binoculars to watch the wildlife from your tent. At the end of the day, an enormous free-standing tub allows you to unwind.

A genuine bath-time ritual can be enjoyed thanks to the South African body range, Healing Earth. Healing Earth is driven by a desire to protect the Earth, so it uses pure, sustainably sourced and biodegradable, indigenous African ingredients in its products which are housed in sustainable packaging and are not tested on animals.

The tent itself is encircled by a private wooden veranda deck, sporting comfortable seating with unparalleled views of the panorama. There’s even a spotting scope on every balcony from which you can better see the animals in the Crater. Look out for elephant, zebra, bushbuck and waterbuck from your tented suite.
